The artist book waves was made during a student exchange last fall, in Nova Scotia. From black and white analog images of waves during a ferry trip between Dartmouth and Halifax, this small handmade flagbook offers a new vision of the flow of water that moves from the Atlantic Ocean to the Halifax Harbor. I see this as analogizing my own story of departure, from home to the coast. I was able to evoke a liquid body that is colorless, odorless, and tasteless; a physical souvenir, tangible while still respecting the inherent qualities of this natural element as one that is always changing, in flux.
